Nvu Tutorials

Note: Nvu, the web page editor, has not been updated since June 2005. No future releases are planned.

However, the program has taken on a new life as KompoZer.

KompoZer is basically Nvu with a new name and bug fixes, according to a Nvu forum post. KompoZer was last edited on Aug-30-2007 and is available for download at kompozer.net

I personally stopped using Nvu over a year ago and primarily use HTML-Kit, another free web page editor. HTML-Kit is a powerful tool, something I use regularly when editing my websites. However, I use it as a text editor and am still hoping to some day find a good WYSIWYG editor. Nvu had me hoping a couple years ago, but the bugs were too annoying so I went back to HTML-Kit.

I downloaded KompoZer today.  I tried it and am very impressed.  It's much better than I remember Nvu being.  I haven't seen any bugs yet.  I edited a complicated page with success.  The only issue I found was that I was not allowed to "Undo" changes.  So if I made a mistake, I couldn't undo it.  I had to instead revert back to the original file.  However, once I removed a bunch of junk from the web page I was editing, the code was simpler, and then KompoZer started allowing me to "Undo" my changes if I made mistakes.

So far, I think KompoZer might be the free WYSIWYG editor that I was waiting for.  Get yours at
kompozer.net.
